In
the year 2001, Frederick County career and volunteer
organizations created the County Wildland Fire Crew.
This is the first fire crew on a County level. We are a
combination of volunteer and career personnel, which
have grown to reach
twenty members. We require our
active members to have completed the S-130/S-190 course,
be in good standing with their local fire
department,
make
75% of yearly tranings and meetings,
and pass the annual Arduous Pack Test.
(3-mile hike, 45-pound pack, 45-minutes)
We are dispatched through the Frederick County
Emergency Communications Center on
a frequency
of
154.845 MHz and by the alpha-numeric paging
system when requested. On occasion, we have been
requested on out of county incidents.
( Baltimore, Washington, Montgomery,
and Allegany Counties )
A few members
belong to the Maryland Wildland
Fire Crew and attend fire camp, in Harford, Md.
In order to hold a current Red Card
for out of state
deployment, camp is required every two years for
a refresher, along with
the annual Arduous Pack Test.
